Signs of the Zodiac The zodiac is the path the Sun appears to take through our sky over the course of a year. This celestial journey is divided into 12 parts known as the signs of the zodiac, which are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. These zodiac signs are named after the 12 constellations the Sun appears to move through on its annual journey. More commonly known as horoscopes or star signs, the zodiac signs are based upon the positioning of the stars in the sky from our perspective on Earth. Your zodiac sign is determined by which of the 12 constellations the Sun was moving through on the exact time you were born. The Sun stays in each zodiac sign for about 30 days as it makes its annual celestial journey, although the precise dates for each zodiac sign change slightly by 1—2 days. Earth Signs The element Earth is all about stability and the solid ground beneath our feet. Earth signs are more grounded than any other signs in the zodiac and they thrive the most when they feel safe and secure. They are also hard workers, and not afraid to get their hands dirty, knowing that hard work brings results. They are patient, persistent, and dedicated, so are happy to work hard in the long term to reach a goal or finish a project. Earth signs have logical minds, although they tend to place too much value on material things. Earth signs have a sense of responsibility and duty and are people who can be relied upon—their word is their bond. They are not comfortable taking any risks and are traditional in their views and beliefs—but they are far from boring! Air Signs The element Air is primarily associated with communication and mental activity. Those born under an Air sign are eloquent, intelligent, fast thinking, and curious. They also have a special way of connecting to those around them because they’re friendly and easy to get to know. Associated with a gust of wind, Air represents motion and movement. Those born under Air signs love to gain knowledge, especially through experience. They have a good memory and soak up knowledge from everywhere and anywhere like a sponge in water. Air is everywhere and connects everything, giving these signs the ability to see the bigger, wider picture better than other signs of the zodiac. Fire Signs The element Fire is associated with warmth, energy, and life. Fire signs tend to be creative souls who need their freedom to thrive. They can also be quite self-centered and love the attention of those around them. Fire is the element of action and the desire to keep growing and developing. The power of flames cannot be ignored and, likewise, the element of Fire is hard to ignore, too. Water Signs The element Water is about movement, flow, and power, and is primarily associated with our emotions. Water signs are sensitive and receptive to the emotions of others and can show a high degree of empathy. This means they can absorb other people’s emotions and become overwhelmed. When in this position, Water signs often try to escape reality, preferring to live in a fantasy world. They are also intuitive and are very connected to their gut feelings, which they often express in creative and artistic ways. They can be more reserved, even shy, and prefer to mix with their friends and family rather than with people they don’t know. Earth Shapes Us Air Connects Us Fire Transforms Us Water Moves Us
