The Lord Is Calling You Each Day to Be Like Him There is a feeling of comfort that stirs inside you when you hear another call you by your name. A tug on your heart when someone you love says your name tenderly. To be called by name indicates that you are known in a personal way. Christ calls us in this way every moment of every day, but how can we respond to him? In Called by Name, the women of WINE: Women In the New Evangelization have created a daily devotional to help you answer Christ so that you can be empowered and equipped to draw near to him and use your God-given gifts for the Church. Every day offers a meditation on scripture and an encouraging insight from popular Catholic authors and speakers to guide you through the year and help you find the peace, joy, and love that only Jesus can provide. Contributors include Kelly Wahlquist Sarah Christmyer Kathleen Beckman Lisa Hendey Sonja Corbitt Teresa Tomeo Lisa Mladinich and many more! Listen to Jesus' Voice Daily By Reading from the Word of God The Lord speaks to you through his word, so every entry starts with scripture to help you hear him more clearly. Each verse can be pondered slowly, meditatively, and prayerfully through the practice of lectio divina. Reflecting with the Insights of Faith-Filled Women You are not alone on this faith journey; you have the wisdom from 80+ women of WINE to support, nurture, and encourage you! Meditate on their reflections, which are designed to help you open your heart to hear God’s voice. Responding to His Call In scripture, when the Lord calls someone by name for an important mission, that person responds. The same holds true for us. Each day ends with a prompt on how we can respond to the call to be like him. Sample Meditation 1 Morning Glory My favorite time of day is the moment when God kisses the world good morning—sunrise. I feel the divine benediction throbbing in my own pulse and throughout the atmosphere, beckoning an awareness of its miracle, its gift. There is no promise of another day. Yesterday cannot be unlived yet might be transformed. What are we missing because we’re sleeping? What glorious gifts is God’s great, open hand showering on me while I blearily, blindly rush through my to-do list? May I receive the grace of this good morning and present my day at evening to its Maker as a cup running over with participation in eternity. “His mercies . . . are new every morning.” Prayer: Lord, give me eyes to see and ears to hear you, as you breathe your constant love in me, around me, over me, and through me. My heart is open. Let me be a little ray of light over someone today. Amen. Respond to His Call: Resolve to smile like a sunrise at every person you come in contact with today. Sample Meditation 2 Go to Where You Know Jesus to Be On Holy Saturday, when Mary Magdalene faced her darkest hour— her Lord, her Hope, her Love, her Savior was dead and buried—she went to the tomb. She went to where she knew the Lord to be. We can learn a great lesson from Mary Magdalene’s actions in her time of great suffering. When we face our darkest hour, we can go to where we know the Lord to be. We can go to scripture, to prayer, to adoration, to Mass, to the Eucharist. It is there where we will find him. Even if we still feel empty and alone, we can take comfort knowing he is there with us. On any dark days you face in the future, go to where you know Jesus to be. Prayer: Jesus, give me the courage to follow you each day and the grace to be a witness of the power of your merciful love. Amen. Respond to His Call: Today, go to where you know Jesus to be. Close your eyes and listen with your heart to the message he has for you. Sample Mediation 3 Your Call to Fruitfulness Like Israel in the Old Testament, we go through times of upheaval and darkness. Times when we feel dry and barren or worse. God promised the Israelites that he would heal their ravaged lives and make them fruitful. God is the same today. His plans don’t end in dust and dirt, even if sometimes our path goes through destruction and chaos. He is the master of bringing life from death, and he has called you to fruitfulness. Even when everything looks wrecked around you, hope in God! Prayer: Thanks be to God, who is my keeper, who has his eye on the vineyard of my life, and who wants me to bear fruit. Jesus, help me keep my eyes on you and off of the mess around me. Amen. Respond to His Call: Today, tackle a space you need to clean up. Put on some praise-and-worship music to accompany your work.
