Formal(ish) Intros In this workbook, we’ll introduce you to budgets, debt repayment, emergency funds, and financial goals and walk you through everything step by step. You won’t find any financial mumbo jumbo here; we believe in K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Smartie). Because the smartest thing you can do is Keep It Simple. We’ll also be sharing financial advice based on our own personal experiences, discussing the different ways the two of us do things (because, as you’ll soon learn, there is no absolute “right” way that works for everyone when it comes to managing finances), and owning up to our own personal financial blunders. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned while figuring out how to get our money (and lives in general) together, it’s that you always learn the most about how to succeed from making mistakes. What Is Earn Spend Live? In 2015, we created Earn Spend Live—a lifestyle website devoted to helping young women navigate their career, manage their finances, and figure out how to be a functioning adult. At the time, we were navigating our first jobs post-college and figuring everything out as we went—how much of our paychecks to save, how much to spend, how much to contribute to a 401k, etc. As we stumbled along, we wished we had some kind of guide to help us understand the financial decisions we were making—aside from the typical advice you find online for millennials, like skipping our morning lattes and avocado toast and giving up any dreams of owning our own homes. So with a push from our mentor, who believes in us far too much, we decided to make our own guide—aka Earn Spend Live—where we detail our own successes and mistakes, as well as provide advice from women much more successful than us.
