His supernatural gifts are given to us for the purpose of edifying and building up His people. They differ from natural abilities like singing or acquired abilities like playing an instrument. We cannot pray for or acquire a spiritual gift other than the one given to us at the moment of salvation when the Holy Spirit came to make His home in us. Ephesians 4:11 explains that Jesus Himself has chosen and distributed gifts to us in the combinations He prefers. With that great truth in mind, let’s not insult Jesus by wishing we had someone else's gifts. Let’s honor the gift Giver by training ourselves to use our blend of gifts as our worshipful service to Him!Pastor John MacArthur has beautifully explained,“No child in the world could substitute for one of our own children. No matter how many children we might have, none could ever be replaceable. Neither are God’s children replaceable or the ministries He has given us replaceable. No other believer can take our place in God’s heart, and no other believer can take our place in God’s work. He has given no one the exact gift He has given us and He has given no one the exact ministry he has given us.
