God's People Redeemed is a nine week study of Exodus Chapters 1-15. The Bible is God’s word to humanity. In it, He reveals who He is, and the work He is doing. Each book of the Bible provides insight into specific characteristics of God. God is always fully God, each of His characteristics rolled into one, perfect being. We, however, in our finite understanding, come to know Him bits and pieces at a time. Through Scripture, God’s nature and character unfolds story by story, book by book, letter by letter. In Exodus, the second book of the Bible, God powerfully reveals Himself as Deliverer. He is a God who is both able and willing to redeem His people from the harsh reign of oppression. On the pages of Exodus, this plays out as God frees His covenant people, the Israelites, from the cruelty of Egyptian slavery and leads them to rest under His right and just rule. However, the story of Exodus is not confined to pages made of paper and ink. It is a story that tells and retells itself in the heart of every human. It is a story of a people, called forth by a covenantal God, to follow Him out of a life of slavery and into a life of service to Him - a people, not now bound by chains of iron and steel but by the grip of sin, death, and the spiritual forces of evil. In this study of the first 15 chapters of Exodus, we’ll come to recognize how our spiritual journey bears a remarkable resemblance to the Israelites’ physical journey. As God moves mightily on behalf of the Israelites to redeem them from their enemy, we’ll gain insight into the faithfulness and strength of God to free us from the power of our enemy as well. As Psalm 66 beckons us, let’s “Come and see” the God of Exodus, and the awesome deeds He has done. Let’s come and see God’s powerful plan to redeem His people as we journey through this study together.
