How has your background and experience helped you to write this book? I come from a programming background with extensive experience in database design and implementation. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with relational data models - and Power BI is no different. Power BI also follows relational data modeling. To be able to design and implement a well-performing report, you also need to have a well-designed data model with the Star Schema approach. Having a concrete background in designing and implementing relational databases with Star Schema helped me significantly in writing this book. What are your favorite parts in the book and why? Data Preparation in Power Query Editor: I love this chapter as it explains the importance of data preparation while having Star Schema and data modeling in mind. It is super important to get the data preparation right which leads to having a well-designed data model that is clear, less complex and makes it easier to deal with the required DAX expression.Advanced Data Modeling Techniques: This chapter provides invaluable techniques for more advanced users working on enterprise-grade projects by explaining aggregations, incremental data loading, parent-child hierarchies, and more. Without knowledge of the techniques explained in this chapter, you won’t be able to support large models in an enterprise.Extra Features for Data Modeling: This chapter is great because it explains new features in Power BI which are either revolutionary, such as composite models, or are helpful in decreasing development effort and taking the user experience to the next level such as calculation groups.
