This book is a chronicling of my African-American family’s history, one that is diverse, complex, and mysterious with both tragic and triumphant stories to be told. It is compelling, dramatic, at times comedic, and deeply rooted in African-American culture and the challenges of the new millennium. It is being told with an eye toward identifying my family’s place in American history and cementing our future in this complex world. It was crafted from connective recollections from older living family members, historical events, family records, narratives, oral history, public records, historical documents, books, and pictures. Discussions will focus on both individual family members and the family collectively as well as those individuals and circumstances that have had major influences on our identity and legacy.
