Welcome to the wonderful world of the Granny Square! The Granny Square first popped up in print in 1891 as an engraving in The Art of Crocheting and it has been filling homes in the form of blankets ever since. I love a Granny Square, and I’m sure I caught the bug from my own granny, who had a multicoloured crochet blanket for every surface. During my time as a crochet designer I have tried to cover as much as I can in colourful squares – ever since my mum showed me how! From filling a Selfridges window with squares and covering the chairs at my wedding to exhibiting my Granny Square designs at a V&A exhibition – I LOVE making squares.
