Simple Stiches Brick Stitch This is a great stitch for covering backgrounds. It is worked by stitching on alternate rows across the canvas, creating an interlocking vertical brickwork effect. Skip Tent Stitch A tent stitch where every other stitch is skipped to create a diagonal striped effect, leaving some of the canvas exposed. A simple way to add texture. Tressed Stitch Tressed stitch is a textured stitch that resembles braiding, hence its name! It may look fancy, but don’t let that fool you as it’s really very easy to do. Structured Stitches Condensed Cashmere Stitch Sometimes known as diagonal cashmere, in this stitch one block shares part of itself with the next stitch block, a characteristic common to all condensed stitches. Kalem Stitch On first inspection this stitch can look a little tricky, but its structure is surprisingly simple. Worked in columns, it can just as easily be used upside down. Sandy's Slide This is a diagonal, dynamic, delicately textured stitch that leaves tiny glimpses of exposed canvas to great creative effect. Statement Stitches Combined Cross Stitch This stitch combines large cross stitches with upright cross stitches for a highly textured effect and is at its best when worked in two colours. Darned Web Stitch This stitch combines a reverse skip tent stitch with a neat darning effect, which provides an opportunity to experiment with different threads. Diagonal Wheat Stitch With a simple little pulled-in belt, this stitch transforms from three diagonal lines to a bow of wheat. It’s a useful stitch for filling small-to-large areas. Needle Point Projects Sunny Side Up Picture This project explores contrasting textures: a diagonal satin stitch with tent stitch highlight gives the egg yolk gloss, while T stitch makes the white look good enough to eat. Zingy Zip Pouch Inspired by the 1980s, this zip pouch lets you show off your needlepoint skills. Each colourful stripe showcases a different stitch, including three structured stitches. Jungle Planter This animal-print plant holder will have you mastering satin stitch in no time! Working the stitches at variable lengths is the perfect way to practise your tension.
