Thoughts Become Things As subjective as every life is and must be, it takes very little to see one objective pattern within all, to source our power and to begin applying it willfully: People get what they think about. The formula for creating change begins with intent. Your intent. Your chosen focus. Where you place your energy in formulating thoughts, words, and actions. And wouldn’t you fully expect this? That the propulsion of life, or our shared lives, would have to have a baseline and common thread? Something that ties everyone and everything together? That creates cohesion and continuity? That makes all things, new and old, possible? Yes? Obvious? A grid or matrix through which to play out our adventures with inviolate parameters, although very few, that gives us our tomorrows on much the same terms as we received them today? Indeed. An excerpt from Playing the Matrix: A Program for Living Deliberately and Creating Consciously Jambo Fellow Adventurer, Seventeen years ago, months shy of turning a very scary “four oh!,” at the lowest ebb of my life—distraught over a bad breakup, second career in ruins, debt far exceeding my life’s savings—heartbroken, I wondered if I’d ever be happy again. By any account, my life was a train wreck. Among other seemingly futile attempts to “get my groove back,” I began sending out free inspirational e-mails. And slowly—very slowly—I felt better. Within a year, as my little mission grew and my website expanded, I found myself experiencing sporadic happiness. Within two, I was dating, earning, and had an impressive following. After three, I began to travel the world, teaching that anyone, anywhere, no matter where they are, no matter where they’ve been, can learn how to live deliberately and create consciously. And on one such trip, even after I thought it might be too late for myself, I met a woman who’d later make me a first-time husband and father. “Stranger than fiction,” as they say. Today, after all these years as my own student and teacher, my ultimate daylong presentation has evolved into my newest book, Playing the Matrix. In it, I share all that I’ve learned, plus, with the benefit of hindsight, I share exactly what I did to unwittingly hasten a comeback that would wildly exceed my earlier life successes. It’s become my most advanced program, not because it’s complicated—it’s not—but because it’s so unconventional, unexpected, and at first, seemingly contradictory to all the wisdom taught by others. Distilled to as few words as possible, this book aims to give you a better understanding of who you are, how you got here, and, above all, what you can still do with your time in space.
