The Search Continues! “The Secret Treasure of Oak Island is a testament to D'Arcy's continuing passion and commitment towards revealing the truths of the Oak Island mystery. A great read.” —Rick Lagina, co-host of popular History Channel show “The Curse of Oak Island.” Seen here (right) with D'Arcy O'Connor, author of The Secret Treasure of Oak Island. From the Preface… For over two hundred years, Oak Island has consumed the fortunes, and in some cases the lives, of those who have obsessively set out to unlock its secret. Despite all that, the mystery remains unsolved, and not a single dime of treasure has ever been recovered. Yet even today the search continues. An estimated $5 million (in today’s dollars) has so far been sunk into the quest; and now the current search group is prepared to spend as much as $20 million in possibly the final assault on Oak Island. It would be an archaeological dig exceeding anything ever done anywhere for similar purposes, and it may well result in the discovery of one of the world’s richest and most historically important treasures. But this book is also a story of people. The men who are driven by a lust for gold, by archaeological curiosity, and by their determination to outwit the unknown engineer who was responsible for the Oak Island enigma. —D’Arcy O’Connor Discover the Hidden History of Oak Island... The Hedden Shaft This pit, known as the Hedden shaft, is the only one still visible on the site of the original Money Pit today, and is approximately the center point of the Lagina brothers’ projected “Big Dig” excavation. Hedden’s shaft was put down just east of ’the Chappell shaft and was twelve feet wide by twenty-four feet long—large enough to accommodate his lateral drilling program. The Dig at Borehole 10-X It began quite innocuously in October 1969 as just another exploratory test hole, its location selected by Blankenship by dowsing, and was designated on the grid map as Borehole 10-X by the Golder geophysicists working for Triton. But it would become the deepest, most controversial, and, for Dan Blankenship, most dangerous shaft ever sunk beneath Oak Island. The Dig at Borehole 10-X The discovery of metal and cavities in a virgin area where no previous searchers had ever dug or drilled prompted Triton to ream the hole large enough to permit cameras and searchers to be lowered into it. Borehole 10-X thus became a full-fledged shaft, the deepest one ever put down on the island.
