“The gist of this discourse is, therefore, to assure poor souls that the pity and compassion of his heart remain the same as it was on earth. There in heaven, he intercedes for us with the same heart as he did here below. He is as meek, as gentle, as willing to help, as tender in his affections as he was then.”In The Heart of Christ, Thomas Goodwin gets right to the heart of how we as Christians relate to the glorified Christ. How does he feel about us in his heart? In the biblical Gospels, we meet Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the compassionate Friend to sinners. We feel like we could run to that Jesus with all of our sins and all of our weaknesses and receive mercy. But what about the Jesus that has now been exalted to unimaginable heights? Can poor, sinful people like us hope for mercy from him? Goodwin’s answers to this question have proven to comfort and delight the hearts of Christians. This edition is unabridged, but the English has been carefully updated. This means that all of Goodwin’s meaning is still here, but put into a form that is much easier to read for people living nearly four hundred years after he wrote. A new generation of Christians would be tremendously blessed by getting acquainted with this little book.Thomas Goodwin (1600-1680) was an influential English Puritan preacher and theologian. He was a member of the Westminster Assembly aligned with the “dissenting brethren.” He was President of Magdalen College, Oxford, from 1650 to 1660. He worked closely with John Owen and together they authored the Savoy Declaration. Goodwin wrote The Heart of Christ in Heaven towards Sinners on Earth in 1645. Five volumes of his written works were published after his death.
