Learn more about the life of Fred Rogers: Fred had to spend a lot of time indoors as a kid He had awful allergies and asthma. His parents were always worried he was going to get sick. Fred spent a lot of time reading or playing with puppets. He loved to tell stories and play the piano. When his family got a TV, Fred got an idea Fred thought the TV was great, but he noticed the kids’ shows usually had people in costumes, throwing pies in each other’s faces. He thought that was a silly use of technology. So, he decided to become a TV star to help kids. After working on other people’s shows, he started his own Together, with a team of people, Fred came up with a show called The Children’s Corner. A woman named Josie Carey would sing while Fred played the piano. Fred filled in any extra time they had with his puppets. Then came Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Mister Rogers talked in a slow, calm way that welcomed children to his Neighborhood of Make-Believe, puppetry, and interesting visitors. Kids would line up with their parents to meet him.
