Learn more about the life of Lin-Manuel: Lin-Manuel was born to perform As a child, he loved listening to all sorts of music and watching Disney musicals. One of his favorite films was The Little Mermaid. In fourth grade, he memorized and sang a popular song from the film to his entire class. He fell in love with performing! He was inspired to write his own songs and plays Lin-Manuel took piano lessons and started composing his own music, filming movies for school projects, and directing school plays. After graduating from high school, he studied theater and film at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Now, more people of color are acting in roles that were typically limited to white actors. Lin-Manuel also explores different musical genres in his plays, like hip-hop and salsa.
