The stories he read fueled his imagination Stan started writing his own stories and characters. He got a job at Timely Comics as an office assistant, and they asked him to write a short story. Later, the editor left and put 18-year-old Stan in charge! Stan was excited to create something new and different. Instead of following trends, he created new ones Timely Comics changed its name to Atlas Comics before it finally became Marvel Comics. Stan wrote a story with new characters, then asked his old friend Jack Kirby to bring them to life. Jack worked on the art, and in 1961 the Fantastic Four became an instant success Stan was an innovator in comic books With a talented group of artists, Stan co-created new heroes like Thor, Iron Man, and the X-Men. Stan and Jack Kirby even created Black Panther, the first African superhero in comic books! Stan also came up with his own writing style and the idea of a continued storyline over several issues.
