The Ultimate Guide to Astrology: Use the Guidance of the Planets to Manifest Your Power and Purpose by Tanaaz Chubb SECTION 1 | YOUR MAP TO THE COSMIC SKIES Astrology is an ancient art that connects the Universe around you to the Universe within you. As you start your journey, you will see that there is a formula or chart system that is used to help make sense of the planets, the zodiac signs, and the energies they are creating. This chart system is like your map to the stars. Once you understand the basics of it, you will be able to read your own chart, the charts of others, and the chart of our present time as well. SECTION 2 | THE BLUEPRINT OF YOUR SOUL While your entire chart tells your story, there are a few key components that paint a clear picture of some of the messages, lessons, and adventures that your soul set out to accomplish in this lifetime. These are your Sun sign, Moon sign, rising sign, and lunar nodes. As we have already looked at your rising sign, in this section, you will be taken on a journey to understand your Sun sign, Moon sign, and lunar nodes and how you can use these energies. Read for both the sign and the house, then blend the interpretations. SECTION 3 | PLANETS: THE COSMIC MESSENGERS We are all made of stardust, and whether we realize it or not, we are connected to the entire Universe. In astrology, there are three types of planets: personal planets, gateway planets, and higher consciousness planets. Each planet holds a particular vibration and emits a frequency that we all have the capacity to feel. The sign and location of the planet at the time of your birth will color how you experience this frequency. DRAWING AND DECODING YOUR CHART For the most accurate birth chart, you will need to know your exact time of birth. There are many free online tools that will draw your birth chart for you. For the purposes of this book, I recommend printing a copy of your chart and having it in front of you so it’s easier to follow along. If you don’t know your birth time, draw your chart with the time set to 12 p.m. With this method, the house placements will not be accurate, so you won’t be able to determine your rising sign (page 16) or other sacred angles (page 16). Nevertheless, you will still be able to build a great snapshot of the energies you are working with in this life. When it comes to understanding your birth chart, there are four things to master: Zodiac SignsHouses and Sacred AnglesPlanetsAspects THE MOON CYCLE The Moon goes through phases, and so do we. The Moon represents our emotions and the things we need to feel emotionally secure as we move through this world. The Moon also represents our relationship with the feminine and our ability to tune in to the softer, more subtle vibrations of the world around us. New Moon: This is the beginning of the lunar cycle. Magnetic forces of the Moon draw us inward, encouraging us to sit with our emotions and the stillness of our own breath. The energy around us is most fertile, and we are able to call in what we wish to manifest through setting intentions and aligning our focus. This is also a good time for starting new projects. Crescent Moon: This occurs a few days after the New Moon and is when we can see a thin crescent. During this phase, we can set intentions and think about what we want to draw into our lives. First Quarter Moon: Out of the darkness, we start to see the light, and we may connect the dots and feel more confident about a particular area of our life. This moon phase also calls for patience as we allow our intentions time to ripen. Waxing Gibbous: Things are crystalizing. We begin to see a deeper truth and become aware of our true thoughts and feelings. We see our intentions turning into realities. NEW MOON RITUAL: SET YOUR INTENTIONS On a New Moon, light a candle and write three things you would like to draw into your life. Fold the paper and place it against your heart. Close your eyes and breathe for a few minutes. Visualize your intentions becoming a reality. Keep your paper to look back on in six to twelve months to see how your intentions have come to life. Your Personal Planets The personal planets make up our base personality: Mercury rules over our mind, Venus rules over our heart, and Mars rules over our ability to take action. As these planets orbit closest to the Sun, their energetic effects are more noticeable, especially on a day-to-day level. The energy of these planets can also influence and trigger us differently, depending on what we are currently going through in our lives. The Gateway Planets The gateway planets are the bridge between the personal planets and the planets of higher consciousness. These gateway planets are Jupiter and Saturn along with the asteroid Chiron. These celestial bodies begin taking us from our outward personality into the deeper depths of our inner personality. By walking the bridge that the gateway planets provide, and working through the lessons and gifts they offer, we can step into a higher state of being and elevate our consciousness to new levels of awareness and enlightenment. Planets of Higher Consciousness The planets of higher consciousness are Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. These planets work with us on a subconscious level, which means we don’t notice their lessons and gifts unless we are paying attention. As these planets work quietly in the background of our lives, it is often only once they are done that we are able to see the journey of transformation we have gone through. As these planets take years to orbit the Sun, their effects can also be seen on a global or generational level.
