Crazy for Crazy Quilts Learn crazy-quilting techniques with colorful photos that show every detailCombine fabric, embellishments, and 35 stitches, plus endless variations, into stunning crazy quilts as unique as youUnpack savvy design principals to make order of the chaos and guide the viewer's eye around the block Color Scheme Inspiration from Life Often while looking for fabrics that match a favorite photograph, you will find similar fabrics that almost match. They may not go wit the print exactly, but they will often make a second block that will sit comfortable next to your first. One block inspires a second, and then a third and so on. Choosing fabrics is a lot of fun and can give you hours of relaxing pleasure. You can find inspiring colors in jus about anything you see. I look at things like crockery, books, magazines, or decorative items for the home. Photographs can be a wonderful source of inspiration. Find a photo with interesting colors. Don’t' get seduced by the subject of the photo - just look at the colors! Using Ribbon Ribbons are delightful to use in crazy quilting. You can stitch them along a seam or explore the wonderful world of ribbon work and ribbon embroidery. Braids and ribbons will affect a composition in a similar way, since the eye slides quickly along the line they create. Embroidery was added along the edges of this ribbon. I used perle cotton #8 thread to work quarter-daisies of detached chain stitches. This ribbon was secured to the block with bugle and seed beads. It only needed a light touch of beads to enhance the pattern since it is such a beautiful ribbon. In this case I wanted a dramatic statement! Many ribbons can be used in crazy quilting, even if they are wide. This ribbon was 11/2˝ (3.8 cm) wide, so a button cluster could be layered on top of it without the buttons taking over. Foundation Stitches Buttonhole Stitch Bring the thread up from the back of the fabric on the lower imaginary line.Insert the needle on the upper imaginary line one stitch width over, and come out straight down on the lower imaginary line, looping the working thread under the needle.Pull the needle through the fabric to form a loop.Repeat this process along the line.
