Fleet captained lifeboat 6 and was able to survive the disaster. Jessop was curled up in bed with a book when the ship struck an iceberg. She made it out to the deck and began directing non-English speaking passengers to put on their lifebelts. She eventually found herself a spot in lifeboat 16 and was rescued the following morning. On the night of the sinking, Charles felt the collision and immediately got up to see what happened. He remained on the ship until it went under and then treaded water for hours until daylight finally revealed an overturned lifeboat. He was pulled aboard the rescue ship RMS Carpathia. Joughin has the distinct honor of being the last survivor to leave the Titanic.
