You Can't Joke About That is a book written by Kat Timpf, a journalist and comedian, that discusses the current state of political correctness and cancel culture in society. The book explores how these movements have impacted comedy and free speech and how people can navigate these sensitive topics in a humorous way.
Timpf's book is an insightful and timely examination of the cultural and political climate of today. She explores the origins of cancel culture and political correctness and how they have impacted comedy and free speech in the United States. Through personal anecdotes and interviews with comedians and experts, Timpf argues that the current climate has had a chilling effect on the entertainment industry and society as a whole.
Throughout the book, Timpf emphasizes the importance of humor and the role it plays in addressing difficult and controversial topics. She argues that comedy is a powerful tool for social change and can be used to challenge harmful attitudes and behaviors. Timpf also stresses the importance of empathy and understanding when engaging in humor, particularly when dealing with sensitive subjects.
The book also delves into the impact of social media on the cultural landscape and how it has contributed to the rise of cancel culture. Timpf argues that social media has created an environment where people are quick to judge and condemn, and where the threat of public shaming is ever-present.
"You Can't Joke About That" is a call to action for comedians and society at large to stand up for free speech and push back against the culture of cancelation. Timpf argues that comedians have a responsibility to challenge societal norms and push boundaries in order to create positive change. She also encourages readers to engage in open and honest dialogue with those they disagree with in order to foster greater understanding and empathy.
The book has received praise from both comedians and political commentators for its thoughtful analysis and humor. It offers a refreshing perspective on the current cultural landscape and provides practical advice for those who want to engage in comedy and free speech in a meaningful way.

I usually don't spend a huge amount on a single book. For thirty dollars, I expected more. There was plenty to go here or email for more. But 4/5 for concepts that I think will be useful, even if there seems little hope of gaining a massive following without paying.
Very accessible and relevant. It is innovative and very effective.
I should have started reading much earlier. A really good book.
